Secrets of the Red Lantern: A tour of Singapore’s red light district

Walking tours are one of the greatest ways to have a well-informed travel experience.  During our time in Singapore, we decided to dig a bit deeper into Singapore’s culture and food history by taking the Secrets of the Red Lantern: A Chinatown and Geylang tour provided by The Original Singapore Walks.  I enjoyed this tour because it provided a glimpse behind Singapore’s gloss and modernity: here we learned about Singapore’s underbelly. A self-guided food walk through Singapore’s Joo Chiat/Katong neighborhood

After our excellent lunch and interview with Dr. Leslie Tay, Elyse and I decided to put his food and travel guide, Only the Best! The ieat.ishoot.ipost Guide to Singapore’s Shiokest Hawker Food, to the test by doing his suggested Joo Chiat/Katong food walk. We wanted to see if it was possible for us to use this great guide to have an authentic and tasty self-guided food tour.

We selected the Joo Chiat/Katong walk because this is a part of Singapore that is not often visited or experienced by tourists. With over 20 stops on his suggested walk, with some places having different operating hours, we did not stop at every single stop. Nonetheless, we were able to find some of Singapore’s more off the beaten path great places to eat.

A New Zealand Steak Experience in Wellington

While New Zealand lamb is perhaps the most famous of its foods, the country produces excellent high-quality beef products as well.   On our last night in Wellington, we met up with New Zealand Beef and Lamb representative Lisa at the Crazy Horse Steak House for a tasting tour of New Zealand’s best beef.  New Zealand Beef and Lamb also introduced us to beef and lamb farmers, the Redmaynes at Tunnel Hill in Turakina.
